Program for Monday 20th. May 2013

The major world-wide headline of 1961 was that relating to the launch, orbit and successful recovery of cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin - and the so-called "space race" between the USSR and the USA entered a new phase.

Meanwhile, down here on earth we were listening to a plethora of musical hits from the USA; there was no competition when it came to the source of the vast majority of the records that were bought and received air-play here in Australia. America provided more than 90% of our popular music.
